From Fügen, the Spieljochbahn and Knappensteig will take the hiker in approx. 45 minutes to the 1.783 metre high tourist mine, the highest situated of its kind in Austria. For children, youngsters and adults an exciting excursion, entering the mountain, just like the mineworkers used to do, breathe in the moist and cold cave air and absorb the mine's might and eeriness.

So much to discover

There is lots to discover, even before the qualified guide takes you on the undergound. On the former mine's slag-heaps there are still quite a few interesting stones. The trained eye can spot cobalt, pyrite, quartz and various mineral ores here.

400 years of mining history

During the tour through the tourist mine, the guide will tell all there is to know with regard to mining history and particularly about the Spieljoch mine. Mining history is all about the life and work of courageous men, who did not only risk, but also often lost their lives for us.  Returning to the surface, there is a general feeling of joy, walking out with an unforgettable memory and  being able to breathe in the fresh alpine air again.
