The tour's first starting point is located between Gerlos and Zell. From there you will go up to the starting-point of the via ferrata with the Gerlossteinbahn.

The via ferrata in the Gerlossteinwand is the first modern one within the Ziller valley.  From here one has a magnificent view of probably the most beautiful mountain in the region. One can see as far as the Rofan mountains, the Kaiser mountain and the ice giants of the Ziller Alps.

Since the via ferrata can be reached by mountain railway, the climber can pace him or herself. The ascent is suitable for unexperienced beginners and children; various mountain sports schools offer beginner courses.

The route has been determined by the Zell mountain rescue team in such a way, that it offers variation. The via ferrata on the limestone gneiss wall of the Gerlosstein, located above Zell am Ziller, is situated on the north face of the mountain, since the conditions are ideal on that side.

It is 380 metres long and the difference in height is 240 m. There are two ways to choose from to descend. The one via the beautiful Heimjöchl will take approx. 1,5 hours and the other one, following the signposted hiking route is slightly shorter.
